Speakers was a projekt for artspace W139 in Amsterdam, which i developed together with Matthijs de Bruijne and Gemma Hoogakker. W139 excists of two spaces, a frontroom and a big hall behind it.

In the frontroom Matthijs made an installation based on interviews he had with people, who had a strong conviction, such as a muslimactivist, a christian, a scientist, somebody who was working for Doctors Without Frontiers etc. He put those voices through speakers fitting the personality of the one interviewed [for example: the muslimactivist through a big basspeaker].

Gemma made an alley especially designed for the project, which went from the first room to the big hall and which was acoustical dead [no reverb]. In the big hall i made a soundinstallation for eight speakers based on the material of Matthijs, in which i tried to put the voices together in a sort of mental space inbetween meaning and pure sound. For the ones who are interested, i can send a copie on cd [note that the original piece – for eight speakers – was impossible to put on a cd.
